Basketball Historian Biography

An All American guard Steve Alford played with coach Bobby Knight 1986-87 NCAA Champion Indiana Hoosiers. In the NCAA Championship Game against Syracuse he caught the attention of basketball fans by scoring 23 points, with 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 forced turnovers in leading Indiana to a 74-73 victory.

A second round draft pick by the Dallas Mavericks in 1987, Steve Alford saw limited playing time during his rookie year. Traded to Golden State in mid1989-90 he averaged a career-high 6.3 points per game in 57 games. Traded back to Dallas after the season ended. In the NBA Steve Alford started 3 games of 169 played. Averaged 4.4 career points per game.
