An outstanding dribbler and passer, Ron Williams was standout guard for the West Virginia basketball team and was the ninth player chosen in the 1968 NBA draft by the San Francisco Warriors. He scored 585 points as a rookie in 1968-69. A noted outside shooter, Ron Williams played in the era prior to the 3-point shot.
In his sophomore season he made 452 field goals in 1046 attempts, and hit on 277 of 337 free throws for a splendid .822 percentage.
Ron Williams had a 5.9 assists per game average in 1970-71, seventh best in the NBA and his .844 free throw percentage was third best. He sunk 331 free throws in 392 attempts. He later played with three other NBA teams.
