Dominique Wilkins
Forward & Guard - Atlanta Hawks 1982-1983 thru 1992-1993, 1994; Los Angeles Clippers 1994; Boston Celtics 1994-1995; San Antonio Spurs 1996-1997; Orlando Magic 1998-1999
One of the best athletes to play in the National Basketball Association, Dominigue Wilkins made his mark on the hardcourt with his showmanship of hang-time, double-clutching and remarkable 360-degree spins. The media quickly dubbed him the "Human Highlight Film". Born in Paris France, Dominique Wilkins was twice chosen as a college All-American while starring at Georgia. After his junior year he ventured into the 1982 NBA draft and was chosen by the Utah Jazz as the 3rd pick overall - after LA Lakers picked James Worthy of North Carolina and San Diego picked Terry Cummings of DePaul. A few months later he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks for high scoring forward John Drew , plus veteran guard Freeman Williams, and cash $$$. In 1984-1985, his third NBA season, Dominique notched 27.4 points per game average and improved it the next season to a league-leading 30.3 ppg. In those two seasons he also led all NBA players in field goals attempted, FGA, with 1,891 and 1,827. He finished second in scoring to basketball legend Michael Jordan three times between 1897 and 1993. In 1994 Wilkins was traded along with a first-round draft pick to the LA Clippers for Danning Manning. When Dominique Wilkins retired he had scored an amazing 26,668 career points, 11th highest in pro basketball history, including an Atlanta Hawks record 23,292. He played in 1,047 regular season games but just 56 playoff games, one of the lowest ratios in NBA history. Somehow his points scored did not equal winning games. In just 3 of his 15 seasons in the NBA did Dominique teams go past the first-round of the postseason playoffs. In 1996 he played in Greece, scored 21 points per/game and paced the Panathinaikos to a championship crown. He then played two more years in the NBA, and in 1997-1998 played for Teamsystem Bologna of Italy. He later was a executive VP for the Atlanta Hawks.
