Rickey Pierce
Wins Award as NBA Sixth Man - Milwaukee Bucks 1984-1991 by Basketball Historian

The rest of basketball has confirmed what Bucks fans have claimed all along - that Rickey

Pierce is without peer among NBA players as a sixth man. It became official in 1990, when 

he was voted the Sixth Man Award. 

The honor is one long overdue for Rickey Pierce, whose quickness have produced gasps of admiration ever since he first appeared on the NBA scene. Pierce came to the Bucks at the end of the 1984 season from San Diego to find a happy home in Milwaukee.

In the 1989-90, the 6 ft 4 inch guard was in his 8th NBA season, and his stats for the season included 1,359 points, a resounding 23.0 points per game for a Sixth Man, 2.8 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists pg. The fans of Milwaukee have long recognized the fine all-around play of Rickey Pierce. Every year since Rickey Pierce first joined the Bucks, the squad has made the NBA playoffs, 1984-85 season thru 1989-90, that’s six in a row.

Rickey Pierce went to the Seattle SuperSonics after the 1990 season, became a starter in 1991 and scored a career high 2,658 points, 21.7 ppg in 78 starts. IN 1992-93 with Seattle he scored 2,218 points while starting 72 of 78 games. Four times he helped the Sonics make the NBA playoffs, 1990-1991 thru 1993-94. Played with Indiana in 995 and his last year in the NBA with Charlotte in 1996. Originally drafted by Detroit in 1982 after attending college at Rice.

Rickey Pierce stats 23,665 points, 14.9 ppg in 969 games, 269 starts, 2,296 rebounds, 1,826 assists, 768 steals, 2213 fouls, 147 blk, 2.4 rpg, 1.9 assists pg. NBA Playoffs played in 97 games, scored 2,656 points, 14.9 ppg average.

A well-traveled NBA Superstar, the 6-ft 2-inch, 175-pound Gus Williams used an arsenal of quick moves, fancy dribbling, fast running and quick passes to outmaneuver opposing players. As an NBA rookie in 1975-76 for the Golden State Warriors, Gus Williams notched 11.7 points per game, 3.1 assists per and almost 2-steals per game  (140 steals in 77 games) and made the NBA All-Rookie Team.

Gus Williams scored over 20.0 points per game in 4 different seasons in his career, and helped his teams reached the NBA playoffs 10 times in a career spanning 11 years. He scored over 14,000 points and grabbed over 1,600 steals. Six times in his career he compiled a points created percentage of over .500 pct, including resounding numbers of .632 and .624 in 1982-83 and 1983-84 with Seattle.

The quick-thinking Gus Williams reached his peak after signing as a free agent with the Seattle Super Sonics prior to the 1977-78 season. For Seattle in 1981-82 he scored a career-high 23.4 ppg and posted 6.9 assists per game. The next season he rang up 20.0 ppg and 8.0 apg, then folllowed those numbers with 18.7 ppg and 8.4 apg in 1983-84.

Gus Williams stats: 14,093 points in 825 games, 5793 FGM, 12570 FGA, .461 pct, 108-of-453 3-point shots, .238 pct, 2399 FTM, 3173 FTA, .756 pct, 2,222 rebounds, 4597 assists, 1637 PF, 1638 steals, 1652 turnovers created, 17.1 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.6 apg.

Gus Williams - 1927 points, 19.5 ppg in 99 games, 4.7 assists per game. A very solid ratio of 99 postseason NBA playoff games to 825 regular season games.
