David Robinson set the standard of honor during his basketball days with the Naval Academy,
bringing the team, fans and media attention with his scoring and defensive genius. Drafted 1st in
the 1987 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs he did not play pro ball until age 24 because
he wanted to honor his military obligation. He did not start playing until the fall months of 1989.
In his first season professionally with the San Antonio Spurs, David Robinson was chosen
1989-1990 NBA Rookie of the Year. In his 14 year pro career he was a NBA first team All Star
in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1996, and second team twice. And also was selected NBA
All Defensive first team 4 times and second
team another 4 times.
In his second National Basketball Association season, 1990-1991, David Robinson led the
league with 1,063 total rebounds and with 320 blocked shots. The next season the tenacious
defensive team player again led the league in blocked shots with 305.
In 1993-194 David Robinson led the NBA with a career-best 29.8 points per game.
In 1995-1996, David Robinson led the NBA in defensive rebounds with 681, and again in
total rebounds with an even 1,000, and was chosen Most Valuable Player, MVP, of the entire
NBA.
David Robinson was the main man of the San Antonio Spurs and helped the team reached the
playoffs 13 times in his stellar 14-year career. In 123 NBA playoff games he averaged 10.6
rebounds per game and 18.1 ppg and blocked an amazing 312 shots.
David Robinson teamed with Tim Duncan to led the San Antonio Spurs to back-to-back
NBA Championships in 1998-1999 and 1999-2000.
