A 2-time All Big Ten college selection, Ronnie Lester was the floor general for the Iowa Hawkeyes which took 4th place honors in the 1980 NCAA Final Four Games. He was voted three times the Iowa MVP and led the team in scoring twice. 

 

Drafted Number 10 in the first round of the NBA draft Ronnie Lester made the Chicago Bulls starting lineup in his 2nd NBA season, 1981-1982, and scored 870 points in 75 games with 362 assists, 4.8 assists per game, with 80 steals. His hustling defensive play set well with fans and Ronnie Lester rated high on their list wherever he play.

 

Ronnie Lester played 14 NBA playoff games, including 9 playoff games with the 1984 NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers in 1984-85. Ronnie Lester NBA stats: 1,816 points, 7.3 ppg in 250 games, 1,003 assists, 187 steals, 473 rebounds.

A well regarded Big Ten Conference player Greg Stokes was chosen Iowa Hawkeyes MVP and was the leading scorer of the Iowa Hawkeyes three consecutive seasons, 1983 thru 1985, including a colligate career-best 19.9 points in his last year. 

He also paced the Hawkeyes in rebounds twice with 193, a 6.9 per game average in 1984 and with 268, a 8.4 rpg average. And, Greg Stokes also led Iowa in field goal percentage three straight times, once in blocked shots,

and once in steals.

 

Greg Stokes played two seasons in the NBA, and a few years in other professional leagues. He scored 126 points in 31 games with the 76ers

in his rookie season, 1985-6, and 34 points in 11 games with the Kings in 1986.

These early colligate basketball pioneers loved the competition that basketball provided. Only one went on to a professional career, but most did not, mainly because they proudly served in the military during World War II.
